Redland Times12/11/2007

Coochiemudlo Island Surf Life Saving Club members were “over oared” with a donation of a surf rowing boat from Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

Bob Stone, boat captain for the Coolum Beach Club said their members were pleased to be able to donate their ‘‘slightly used’’ training surf boat to Coochie to enable club members to continue to develop their personal life saving skills as well as providing water safety services to the island community and the increasing number of visitors to the island.

“This boat will benefit all members from the nippers to the seniors as they learn the skills needed to manage such a large craft in varying water conditions and hopefully one day be able to compete at surf club carnivals at the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast,” Bob said.

The surf boat has been outfitted with rowing and sweep oars, rowlocks and other essential equipment.
