Neil Hann
Introducing the art and artists of Coochiemudlo
Neil Hann came to Coochie from regional South Australia three years ago, adopting the island as a tropical retreat from mainland congestion.
A landscape artist at heart, Neil’s work reflects a personal exploration of the sublime inherent in place. Beach, mangrove and wetland walks, looking closely at the abstract possibilities of the island’s flora have therefore inspired new directions.
Neil’s landscape paintings are characterized by vibrant and shimmering fields of flat color built up in layers of semi abstracted forms. Developing over time, this working approach has been informed by an ongoing love and investigation of Modernist art traditions.
From early designation as ‘the artist in the family’, Neil was encouraged to pursue art studies and a career in art teaching. He now is a full time artist exhibiting with both the Curlew Artisan Gallery and Ross Street Gallery on Coochiemudlo Island.
Galleries open 10am – 2pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
