A volunteer-run community bus operates on most days to pick up and drop off passengers at the ferry terminal or barge ramp, or other locations as required.

Yes, all vehicles need to be registered, but if your vehicle is used almost exclusively on the island, you are entitled to a Restricted Area Concession on your registration costs. Coochiemudlo Island is eligible for this because we don’t have a bridge access to the island.

There is a vehicle barge and a passenger ferry that operates each day from Victoria Point. This service is operated by Amity Trader.
Dogs and cats on the island

Yes, well behaved dogs can travel with their owners on the passenger ferry or as pedestrians on the vehicle barge BUT from March 2026, dogs must be muzzled and on a lead, or in an enclosed carrier.
This is a rule on all public transport in Queensland.
Alternatively, dogs can travel in your vehicle on the barge.

Yes, paralysis ticks are a major problem for dogs and cats on the island unless preventative measures are in place. Make sure you have an ample supply of anti-tick treatments for your pets while they are on the island. There isn’t a pet shop nor vet on the island so finding a supply on the island is not guaranteed.

Coochiemudlo Island is located in the Redlands. Your responsibilities as a dog and/or cat owner are also listed on the Redland City Council website.

A cat carrier is available to contain a stray cat if one arrives at your place to contain it before it wanders off again. A notice posted to Coochie Community Facebook will alert the owner to pick it up.
Although not a major problem on the island, residents have reported stray cats arrive at their place, and no owner comes forward. If the cat has been abandoned, and no one is willing to give it a safe home, the cat will be taken to the Redlands City animal shelter. See more in community contacts.
