Based on Coochiemudlo Island, Millie Simic is an award winning artist who is influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife in her locality.
Millie was raised in a home completely void of art which resulted in an absence of any pre-existing artistic conditioning or constraints — a major plus for developing her original style. Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Initially responding to the interaction of light on organic imagery, her primary decisions concerning her work’s form are typically made from experiential wonderment and internal perceptions of her subject.
Millie frequently alternates between impressionistic and abstract constructs while integrating assorted combinations of soft pastels, oils, acrylics and watercolours. These variables allow a play on interrelation and resemblance.
Improvisation and problem-solving pour into her creative process, along with a conscious focus on composition and colour, to produce works that are evidently truthful, lively and buoyant. As her artistic application and execution continues to bolster, Millie observes the ways in which her new works inform the next, assisting her capacity to illuminate, narrate and illustrate.
Millie accepts some commission work.
