Heritage Society

Heritage contributes to our sense of place.

With focus on our indigenous, settler, and environmental heritages, Coochiemudlo Island Heritage Society (CIHS) Inc. cares for the island's cultural and environmental resources for the past, present, and the future.

The ongoing protection of island's Emerald Fringe is one of CIHS's projects. The Emerald Fringe, the area of land around the entire shoreline encircling the island, is a source of pride and identity. Coochiemudlo Island is the only habited island in Queensland that has no freehold land on its shoreline. The Emerald Fringe is currently listed in the Redlands City Council Heritage Schedule, after CIHS applied to have the Fringe heritage-listed.
