Toolbox Dog Assemblage | Jenny Adermann
I am currently creating paintings using acrylic paint and Posca pens, using a variety of surfaces, but primarily canvas. My preferred subjects come from the natural World, particularly from Coochiemudlo Island and Moreton Bay. While I like to work from photographs, the end results can be quite stylised and often don’t reflect my original plan at all! I use the grid scale technique to enlarge or reduce images to fit canvas sizes and enjoy using different shapes of canvases. I am constantly drawn to using bright colours and my paintings often have a tropical flavour.
A long term love of lino printing has recently been re-ignited and I’m keeping the process as simple as possible with basic lino carving tools and brayers. I use mono-colour water-based ink, then hand colour the print. Again, I begin with photographs taken around the island and convert them into drawings suitable for a lino printing image.
Additionally, I am intrigued by the art of assemblage and have been experimenting with using found objects or old, discarded and everyday items to give the elements new meaning, when combined. While some are 3D sculptural pieces, others are constructed in recycled frames and can be hung on the wall. It’s always an exercise in problem-solving and great fun! The quirky nature of the results usually make people smile.
