Kerry Darton (dARton jewellery) has practiced Silversmithing since 2006. The majority of her work is wearable silver jewellery.
Kerry uses a number of techniques to develop her unique bespoke pieces. Her preferred techniques include, sand casting, etching and stamping. Kerry completed her initial silversmithing training at the Goldsmith School. Since then she has explored many techniques and attended a diverse range of classes offering silversmithing methods. Kerry through practice has learnt and adapted along the way.
Kerry loves to texture her unique jewellery pieces using three main techniques. Sand casting, etching and stamping.
Kerry learnt lost wax casting technique doing a Masterclasss (Casting of Small Objects) at the Queensland College of Art. This sparked an interest in casting, however without a kiln or a centrifugal machine she has been developing her casting skills using a sand casting method.
Another of her favourite texturing methods is applying a resist and marking a design prior to placing the silver in a corrosive solution. This solution etches into the silver leaving the design where the resist has been removed.
The third texturing method uses metal stamps or hammers. This applies a texture to the piece that gives another dimension to the pieces.
