Jenny Alderman
Introducing the art and artists of Coochiemudlo
After a varied career working as a teacher and guidance officer in schools from Cape York to Lamington, artist Jenny Alderman was drawn to Coochiemudlo Island for its unique combination of quiet sandy beaches close to the city and family.
For Jenny, art practice grew from being a favourite subject in school, to become a Major subject in Teacher Training, informing a life threaded with creative activity. Working across a broad range of paint, print, ceramic and assemblage media, her work responds to subjects from the natural world, particularly from the Island and Moreton Bay, often using photographs as a reference for extracting the essential forms of her subject.
In addition to more conventional paint and print media, Jenny has also been enjoying delving into her vast collection of found “treasures” to produce cheerful and quirky 3D creations comprised of shells, coral, recycled frames, old wood turnings and tools, driftwood and so much more.
Jenny’s work, found under the name JenniAdeArt, can be viewed on Island at Curlew Gallery and Artisan Alley.
